Starting Somewhere

Well, going to use this as a tool to get myself back into writing, polish up the old skills, and perhaps...look into doing something where I can write. Full time would be great, but part time, or, during free time is acceptable.
Going back, I have wanted to write for a very long. Since Elementary School at least, where being creative was encouraged. You were given you assignment to write about something, create a story about someone, something, have fun with it.

 I did.

Creating something like that was a wonderful thing for me. I would like that to continue. It isn't because I think I am a fantastic writer, but because I like to create. I would love to follow in the footsteps of writers such as Robert Jordan (not all of his footsteps, Rest In Peace) George RR Martin, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Terry Pratchet (I think that is the name, little on that, Nyquil does wonders on the brain (Nyquil, only thing on Earth to actually taste like 'Red' or 'Green")), and many others. Being able to bring their worlds and stories alive is a skill I would love to work more towards.

To that end, I am going to set a goal for myself, something attainable. Perhaps 500 words a week. I think setting a daily goal is a little off, considering I need to get somethings back in order, and make sure I have time for work, and play. Time to dust off the old laptop, and plink away at something. Of course, I intend on using this to get going as well.

Track progress, relate writers block, and perhaps get readers involved in the creative process.

To that end, does anyone know of a really good online resource? Just dropping "Writers resources" into Google does not seem to do much.

My thanks if you can help me out.

Also, going to take some Writers Courses at Mount Royal University here in Calgary over the summer. Book myself in soon, so I know I can get spot, and can arrange the days I will need off well in advance.

 Cheers!

PS - I will be back soon. I hope to maintain this, and at least one of my other blogs on a regular basis, and perhaps a third as time permits.
